Each Withers Studio piece starts with carefully sourced North American hardwoods. Each board is hand selected from our stock for its character, quality, and fitness in the final piece. Our small but talented team has hands on every piece, at every step along the way, from rough raw material, to final finishing. We focus on solid hardwood in our work for its integrity and one of a kind beauty, knowing that our clients come to us for a unique custom piece that cannot be found in furniture mass produced by larger brands.

We’d like to emphasize that these natural materials have organic characteristics in the form of knots, cracks, and checks. We address these in a variety of ways to ensure material stability, but the wood has a life of its own, and will move and breathe with changes in the seasons. Extremes of temperature and humidity can exacerbate this tendency. Small defects may appear and disappear as winter moves to summer and back again, but usually have no negative effect on the structural integrity of the piece.
